How to use it

1. Pick English to Wingdings, or Wingdings to English to decode.
2. Type or paste your text. The translation updates as you type.
3. Press Copy and paste it into a message, post or document.

What Wingdings is

Wingdings is a symbol font Microsoft added to Windows in the early 1990s. Type a letter in it and you get a picture instead: A is a peace hand ✌, J is a smiley ☺, N is a skull ☠. Because it is a font, the pictures only show where the Wingdings font is chosen. Change the font, or paste into a chat app, and the letters come back.

This translator does it differently. It swaps each letter for the matching Unicode symbol, a real character, so the Wingdings look survives a copy and paste into WhatsApp, Discord, Instagram or an email. Most of these symbols were added to Unicode in 2014 for exactly this reason.

Wingdings to English

Pick Wingdings to English and paste the symbols. Each one is turned back into its letter. Symbols that are not part of Wingdings are left as they are.

If you have text that is just letters shown in the Wingdings font, as in a Word document, you do not need to translate it: select it and change the font to Arial, and the letters are there.

Gaster and Undertale

In Undertale, W. D. Gaster speaks in Wingdings, and fans pass coded messages the same way. Paste a Gaster line in Wingdings to English to read it, or write your own in English to Wingdings.

The Wingdings alphabet

Capital and small letters give different symbols in Wingdings, so the translator keeps them apart.

A few of the rarer symbols, such as 🙰 and 🞐, show as empty boxes on older phones that have no font for them.
