ClipTen Free tools Sort lines alphabetically
Sort lines alphabetically
Paste a list and alphabetize it: A to Z, Z to A, by length, reversed or shuffled. Item 2 comes before item 10, the way people count.
How to use it
- Paste your list, one item per line.
- Pick an order. The list re-sorts as soon as you click.
- Copy the sorted list.
Natural order, not computer order
A plain computer sort puts item 10 before item 2, because it compares the character 1 with 2. This tool compares numbers as numbers, so the list reads 1, 2, 10. Accented letters sort next to their plain ones, so Éclair sits with the E words rather than after Z.
Capitals first makes the sort case sensitive, putting Apple before apple. Leave it off to sort as a dictionary would.
Shuffling fairly
Shuffle uses your browser’s cryptographic random numbers and the Fisher–Yates method, so every order is equally likely. It is good for picking a winner, ordering presenters or mixing quiz questions.
Sorting in Word, Excel and Google Docs
Word sorts paragraphs with Home › Sort. Excel and Google Sheets sort columns with Data › Sort. Google Docs has no sort at all, which is why people search for this. Paste the list here, sort it and paste it back.
