ClipTen Free tools Remove duplicate lines
Remove duplicate lines
Paste a list or text with repeats in it, such as emails, names, keywords or IDs. Remove the duplicates and keep one of each, in the order they first appeared.
0 duplicates removed · 0 lines left
How to use it
- Paste your list, one item per line.
- Tick Ignore capitals if Apple and apple are the same to you.
- Copy the unique lines. The count below tells you how many repeats were removed.
What counts as a duplicate
By default, two lines are the same if they match after ignoring capitals and spaces at either end. So Banana, banana and banana are one item. Untick the options for an exact match, where every letter and space must be identical.
The first time a line appears is the one that stays, and the list keeps its order. To sort it as well, use sort lines alphabetically, which can remove duplicates at the same time.
In Excel or Google Sheets
Excel has Data › Remove Duplicates, and Google Sheets has Data › Data cleanup › Remove duplicates, or the formula =UNIQUE(A:A). They are good for columns already in a sheet. For a list in an email, a chat or a text file, pasting here is faster, and nothing gets uploaded.
Common uses
- Merging email lists before sending, so nobody gets the message twice. Pull the addresses out of any text first with the email extractor.
- Cleaning a keyword list from several research tools.
- Deduplicating IDs, SKUs or URLs from a log or an export.
