Comma separator

Paste a column from Excel or a list with one item per line, and get a, b, c back: with quotes for SQL, with semicolons for email, or the other way round.

How to use it

  1. Paste your column or list.
  2. Choose a separator and quotes. For an SQL IN (…) list, pick single quotes.
  3. Copy the result. Choose List to lines to go back from a comma list to a column.

Column to comma separated list

Copy a column in Excel or Google Sheets and each cell arrives on its own line. Paste it here and it comes out as one line, separated however you like. That is the quick way to make:

  • An SQL filter: WHERE id IN ('1001', '1002', '1003'), with single quotes.
  • A list of email addresses for the To field, with semicolons for Outlook or commas for Gmail.
  • Tags or keywords for a CMS or a YouTube upload, separated by commas.

Comma separated list with single quotes

Choose 'single' under Quotes and every item is wrapped: '1001', '1002', '1003'. A quote inside an item is doubled, as SQL expects, so O'Brien becomes 'O''Brien'. Pick "double" for JSON arrays and most programming languages.

And back again

Choose List to lines and paste something like red, green, blue. It splits on commas, semicolons, pipes and tabs, takes off surrounding quotes, and puts each item on its own line, ready to paste into a column.

Doing it with a formula

Excel 2019 and later, and Google Sheets, can join a column with =TEXTJOIN(", ", TRUE, A1:A100). Quotes need more work: =TEXTJOIN(", ", TRUE, "'"&A1:A100&"'"). Pasting here skips the formula.
