Remove line breaks from text
Paste text that came out of a PDF or an email with a break at the end of every line. Get it back as clean sentences, with your paragraphs kept and extra spaces removed if you want.
0 line breaks removed
How to use it
- Paste your text into the top box.
- Choose Keep paragraphs to keep blank lines between paragraphs, or All on one line for a single block.
- Press Copy and paste it where it was going.
Why copied text breaks at every line
A PDF does not store sentences. It stores lines of text placed at positions on a page. When you copy from it, every line arrives with its own line break, so a paragraph turns into a ragged column when you paste it into an email, a form or a chat. The same happens with text from old emails wrapped at 72 characters, and with code comments.
The tool replaces those breaks with spaces. It treats an empty line as the end of a paragraph, so paragraphs survive when you choose Keep paragraphs.
Words split by a hyphen
PDF text often hyphenates a word that did not fit, like docu- at the end of one line and ment at the start of the next. With Join words split by a hyphen on, those are put back together as document. Turn it off for text where a dash at the end of a line is meant to stay.
Doing it in Word or Google Docs
In Word, open Replace (Ctrl+H), search for ^p and replace with a space. Google Docs needs a regular expression: tick Match using regular expressions and replace \n. Both work, but neither keeps paragraphs, so pasting here first is quicker.
