### How to use it

- Copy formatted text from Google Docs, Word, a web page or an email.
- Click the dashed box and paste with Ctrl + V.
- Copy the Markdown and paste it into GitHub, Notion, Obsidian, a README or a chat with an AI.

### How it works

When you copy formatted text, the clipboard carries an HTML version alongside the plain text. Most boxes on the web only take the plain one. This box reads the HTML version and turns each part into its Markdown form, so nothing has to be reformatted by hand.

### Google Docs

Google Docs marks bold and italic with styles instead of tags, and wraps everything in a bold tag that is not bold. The converter reads those styles, so bold stays bold and the rest stays plain. Google Docs can also download a whole document as Markdown (File › Download › Markdown); pasting here is quicker for a section.

### Paste a table to Markdown

Copy a table from Google Docs, Google Sheets, Excel or a web page and paste it in the dashed box. It comes out as a Markdown table, with the first row as the header and a pipe | between cells, ready for GitHub, Notion or a README. Pipes inside a cell are escaped so the columns stay lined up.

### HTML to Markdown

Have the HTML source instead, from a CMS, an email template or a page’s code? Open Or paste HTML code under the tool and paste it. Headings, links, lists, tables and code blocks are turned into Markdown the same way.

### Safe with any source

The pasted HTML is read as data and never shown as a web page, so scripts or tracking pixels in a copied page cannot run. Only http, https and mailto links are kept.

How do I convert Google Docs to Markdown?

Does it keep links and tables?

Yes. Links become [text](address) and tables become Markdown tables with a header row.

Why do I get plain text with no formatting?

The app you copied from only put plain text on the clipboard. Copy from the document view rather than a code editor or a plain text field.

Can I convert HTML code to Markdown?

Yes. Open Or paste HTML code and paste the HTML source; the Markdown updates as you paste.
