### Quick answer

ClipTen (https://clipten.com/) gives Windows 10 and 11 a Spotlight-style search box. Press Alt + Space, type, and press Enter. If Alt + Space is already taken, it uses Ctrl + Space.

From the Microsoft Store, for Windows 10 and 11. No administrator rights.

Windows has search on the Start menu and a free launcher in Microsoft PowerToys. Here is what each does, and where ClipTen adds to them.

### What the box finds

- Apps and windows. Type part of a name; a slip of the finger still finds it.

- Files. Search in plain words, like “pdf last week”.

- Browser tabs and the web. Jump to an open tab, or search Google or YouTube straight from the box.

- Clipboard history. Every copy with previews. Words inside screenshots are searchable too.

- Answers. Sums, units, time zones and translations as you type. Enter copies the answer.

- Settings by name. Type “dark”, “wifi” or “lock” and press Enter.

### Side by side

Microsoft PowerToys is free and adds its own launcher and FancyZones. ClipTen puts the launcher, the clipboard and the window tools in one app that also runs on a Mac.

### Where it fits

If you only open apps, the Start menu is fine. ClipTen is for people who also paste the same things all day, juggle windows, and want one box for all of it, the same on a Mac if they have one.

These come with ClipTen, $20 once for one computer. The download is free for good, with no account. Pricing → (https://clipten.com/pricing)
